History and Tradition
In 1891 a group of 10 men founded the National Brotherhood of Electricians. These gentlemen today are revered as our Founding Fathers. Seeking better pay, safer working conditions, and training for apprentices these brave souls struck out to unify the entire electrical industry under one banner which is known today as the International Brotherhhod of Electrical Workers.
IBEW Local 223 and it's partnership with it's local contractors provides over 100 years of experience in the Electical Industry. Our highly skilled workforce has provided the manpower needed to complete projects throughout Southeastern Massachusetts covering all aspects of the trade. IBEW Local 223 is committed to serving the communities we live in. Through it's partnerships with non-profits and charitable organizations Local 223 members strive to uphold the tradition of helping the less fortunate or standing behind those who seek to make our community a better place.
2018-2019 Several contractors partnered with IBEW Local 223 completed the addition of a 333 MW gas turbine to the existing Canal Plant constructed in 1968. The addition of a General Electric new technology peaker has given this power generation facility greater flexibilty to meet the changing demand in Southeastern Massachusetts. At this projects peak there were around 80 IBEW Local 223 members
